The 10 best albums of 2009.
10. Fearless - Taylor Swift : This teen country-pop sensation is no one you should mess with and her Fearless CD proves it all that she can make country music enjoyable even for the teens and adults. With the shrill sounds of her guitar and her glimmering voice makes this a relaxing album to date. Best tracks from the album are ‘Love Story’, ‘You Belong with Me’ and ‘White Horse’. (8/10)
9. Hands - Little Boots : Nu-disco sound could not get any better and that is what Little Boots offer on her album ‘Hands’. Pretty much influenced (or probably copying) by Lady GaGa, her CD never disappoints me from start to finish, with her compelling disco and electronic beats that will guarantee get everyone moving. She still got a little bit over on the song ‘Ghosts’ but overall, the album makes UK music much more unbearable than the US music. Best tracks from the album are possibly everything except for ‘Ghosts’. (8/10)
8. La Roux - La Roux : La Roux is mighty unbearable. 80’s synthpop sound revival never gets better than what La Roux offers, and her record is a mega blockbuster CD that will leave you breathless and so as her mighty alto-soprano voice. From the moment ‘In For the Kill’ started to the end, the synth disco sound just keeps better and better each song goes. Every inch of the album is tweet perfect and that’s why La Roux is mighty unbearable. Best tracks are ‘In For The Kill’, ‘Bulletproof’ and ‘Im Not Your Toy’. (8.5/10)
7. I am… Sasha Fierce - Beyonce : Beyonce at her definite best. The CD divides her two big personality, first disc is much more vulnerable and soft, and filled with memorable and touching ballads, and the second disc is much more aggressive, sexual and fierce, and filled with dancey R&B songs. The way she divided the album into 2 CDs is ultimately creative and this album is her most fulfilling and honest. I very much liked the first disc more than the second disc, but for all, this is an amazing CD. Best tracks are ‘If I Were a Boy’, Halo, Smash Into You, ‘Single Ladies’, ‘Sweet Dreams, ‘Diva’ and ‘Video Phone. (8/5/10)
6. brand new eyes - Paramore : Paramore has always been that cute emo band. Clearly, I’ve never expected them to be this conceptual, but their new album proves that concept album are never so boring after all. This album is even more aggressive and mature than their previous effort. They have matured lyrically and musically. With the lyrics saying about their near fate of breaking up and finding the right spirit to come back. From the emotional highly-charged songs like ‘Brick by Boring Brick’ to the sultry ballad rhythms of ‘All I Wanted’, I have to say, this has got to be their most artistic album they have made yet. Best tracks are ‘Ignorance’, ‘Brick by Boring Brick’, ‘Looking Up’ and ‘All I wanted’. (8.7/10)
5. All I Ever Wanted - Kelly Clarkson : Her most enjoyable album to date. An album of pop-rock perfection, thanks to the remarkable former American Idol winner with her own glitzy ideas to make this record. ‘My Life would Suck without you’ is breathtaking, ‘I Do No Hook Up’ is jumppity good fun pop song, ‘Already Gone’ is her most sultry and teary ballad from hers yet and the rest of the album is well…. just mere pop perfection, good ballads and snazzy pop-rock gems. But then again, we wouldn’t imagine if Kelly would make another album like this again.(8.9/10)
4. Rated R - Rihanna : This is for the girls. If you wanna search for an album that incorporates a theme of ‘female empowerment’, then look no more. Rihanna delivers it single-handedly with her recent Rated R album. Very dark and angry lyrically and musically, Rihanna shows how she recovers from a recent abuse and gaining revenge for it. Starting with the scary ‘Mad House’ and ends with the suicidal ballad ‘The Last Song’, truly it is the most fascinating portrait of a woman recovering herself after an enduring abuse. All of the songs are pure art, except for ‘Photographs’ which lacks the anger and spice than the other songs. She called this album ‘therapeutic, but for us, it is far brutal than you have ever expected for it to be. (9/10)
3. The Fame Monster - Lady GaGa : Gaga has achieved everything in 2009. Her debut ‘The Fame’ lavished everywhere, selling thousands and millions of copies. Her singles were breathtaking and fresh in the pop music scene. She was adored, and she was idolized by people worldwide. But upon all of that she has faced several monsters or paranoias on the brink of her dazzling fame. And she decided to express it on her ‘The Fame Monster’ album. Leaning more towards dark pop and gothic music on this album, it is simply her most creative pop art album she has recorded yet. Kicking off with MONSTER smash hit, ‘Bad Romance’, with its heavy steel synth beats and deliciously sing-along lyrics, it is by far her most captivating song she has recorded. Then, it was followed by 7 other stupendously written songs, and by this album, Gaga made sure that she is backing off on taking over the pop music scene yet. (9.5/10)
2. Celebration - Madonna : Although with the princess-like success of Lady Gaga in this modern time, let’s not forget who inspired her so much, Madonna. As to celebrate her unachievable success on the music industry, she released her ultimate greatest hits album, Celebration, which compiles all of her from the beginning to now. And it’s the best greatest hits album I’ve ever known. Starting with pop gems of ‘Hung Up’, ‘Music’, ‘Vogue’ and ‘4 Minutes’, the album kicked off with pure bliss and it doesn’t end or stop, not even once, until the end, where the big celebration have began. With 2 CDs, filled with 36 hits, it is worth the celebration of a once well-knowned pop artist of our recent memories, and her legacy will be unforgotten and shall not vanish like nothing. Long live the QUEEN OF POP! (9.8/10)
1. The Fame - Lady Gaga : Madonna has conquered the pop music scene once before Lady Gaga arrived with her pure theatrical pop album, ‘The Fame’. This album is the best pop album I’ve heard in this modern time. The album is fueled with non-stop agonizing dance-beats that’ll get you moving at a particular pace. With her creative ability of songwriting, pop gems like ‘Just Dance’ and ‘Poker Face’ is highly irresistable, and this album clearly shows how worthy Gaga is to conquer 2009 with this album. As Lady Gaga used to say, ‘Pop music will never be low brow’, the words were truly true indeed. (10/10)
